I am often asked how often you should get a tarot reading. The length of time between readings depends on the type of reading you are receiving.
Getting a full in-depth tarot reading
Generally speaking, a full in-depth tarot reading should be performed every three to six months. These readings involve at least ten cards and cover a great deal of territory in what they can tell you about. It covers many different aspects of your life. The large issues addressed by this type of reading change slowly, so these readings do not need to be done very often.
If you do not have a specific question in mind, it is best to get a full in-depth reading. In general, if there is no other question in mind, I like to use “What is it we need to know most about the situation right now?” Sometimes, these readings will lead to new issues being revealed. This may lead to additional readings on more specific topics.
Readings on specific topics
Readings on specific issues should generally only be performed once. These readings often have fewer cards drawn and are interpreted less generally than full life readings. These tightly focused questions often only need answering once, but you can get several readings on related questions. Asking the same question in different ways will often lead to repetitive answers.
If you have a new topic to be addressed, feel free to get more readings. You should only avoid getting repeated readings on the same question. In my experience, you get the same answers and will only be wasting your time and money. If the situation has significantly changed, you may want to get a new reading on the topic.
To get the most out of your reading
Because choices we make affect the future we will experience, readings should be done either just before major life choices are made, or just after major life events occur. You should not get tarot readings for trivial matters. The tarot works best when the questions are well thought out.
It is always best to have a specific question in mind when getting a tarot reading. It is always best to have open ended questions, and to have questions that you will be able to act on. The tarot provides advice, not an exact picture of the future. It can be used to help guide the way through your problems, but it cannot tell you what will happen with absolute certainty.
